Laser acne scar removal, also known as laser skin resurfacing, is a procedure for patients who want to eliminate the appearance of scarring from the condition. Dr. Clarence Wiley, Sr. in Oklahoma City, OK, can use advanced technology to significantly improve the appearance of acne scars and give you a more revitalized look. Dr. Wiley was one of the first laser surgeons in the country and was trained by Leon Goldman, a pioneer in laser medicine and surgical procedures. Having your treatment performed by a highly trained laser surgeon will ensure you achieve optimal results.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing uses high-powered laser technology to reach the deeper layers of the skin to treat the source of the acne scarring. At Beauty thru Health Dermatology, we use both Isolaz and PhotoDynamic therapy to treat troublesome these skin blemishes. This revolutionary procedure can eliminate the need for oral medications, topical ointments, and antibiotics. With laser skin resurfacing, you can reduce acne scars, prevent future breakouts, and improve the overall appearance of your skin.
Candidacy for Laser Skin Resurfacing
Patients who are in good health and would like to address acne scarring can be considered for laser skin resurfacing. Due to an increased risk of hyperpigmentation, Dr. Wiley may not recommend this procedure for patients with darker skin tones.
During your consultation, he will perform a thorough evaluation of your skin and carefully review your family history to determine if you are at risk for any conditions, such as keloid development. Patients with cystic acne may first need to undergo preliminary treatment before laser skin resurfacing can be performed.

Laser skin resurfacing can help treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Clogged pores
- Large pores
- Acne scars
- Sun damage
- Uneven skin tones and textures
- Stubborn acne
- Fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, mouth, and forehead
What to Expect During the Procedure
Before undergoing treatment, Dr. Wiley will clean and prepare the surface of the skin. He may apply a topical anesthetic over the areas being treated to ensure optimal comfort. At Beauty thru Health Dermatology, we have two different lasers that can be used to address your needs.
Isolaz laser technology is designed to cleanse the pores, reduce oil production, and replenish the skin to help prevent future breakouts. Dr. Wiley will cover your eyes with protective eyewear, spray your skin with water, and gently place the hand-held device over the treatment area.
Dr. Wiley will determine the appropriate setting for the size of the treatment area, skin type, and the severity of the scarring. During the procedure, you will feel slight pressure and a warming sensation, followed by a quick flash of light. Depending on the area being treated, the procedure can generally be completed in about 15-20 minutes.
PhotoDynamic therapy involves placing a topical solution, known as Levulan ALA, on the surface of the skin and activating it with laser light technology. Once applied, your skin will absorb the solution for about 30 minutes before the laser is used. Dr. Wiley will place protective eyewear over your eyes and begin to move the laser over your skin. You may feel a slight stinging sensation and the overall procedure takes about an hour to complete.
To achieve the best results, patients are encouraged to attend two to three sessions over a three to four week period. For particularly severe cases, Dr. Wiley may recommend even more sessions.
